These were extraordinarily perfect leeks. I went with Dad to one of his secret places for these. It was the first time I had been there. I expected to find a proliferation of leeks, but never imagined we would be gathers the Queens of All Leeks! I have never seen such large bulbs. It was such a beautiful, sunny early afternoon, on a vast rock ledge that seemed to go on and on. Digging them was like a dream - the topsoil was rich leaf mold that sat atop the rock ledges, deep enough to hold moisture in the soil, and when you put the shovel in the soil, it just fell apart, and the leeks just came tumbling out of the soil. Every leek gatherer's dream!
Cannot wait!!! Look at those big bulbs. Yum.
